The National Association of Government Contractors (NAGC) and Williams Mullen announced today a free webinar for NAGC members covering the International Trade in Arms Regulation (ITAR).

ITAR has become a major issue for government contracts firms. In recent years the US Government has been increasing enforcement of this important area of regulation. While the ITAR is part of the US export control laws, it also applies to activities beyond exports and applies to many US companies in their domestic business activities. This is especially a problem for government contracts firms that do a lot of work in domestic contracts - while companies in the defense area are familiar with this, many firms that perform domestic contracts for US government agencies are subject to ITAR requirements.

Membership party preference tilts Republican by only 4 percent while 25 percent of members declare themselves Independent. Herman Cain continues to lead in the Republican Primary among members in the survey taken November 9, 2011.

The National Association of Government Contractors (NAGC), a member of the Government Withholding Relief Coalition, has signed on to a letter calling on Congress to repeal the 1099 reporting mandate. Hidden in the new health care law passed by Congress is a new mandate unrelated to health care that will have a major impact on businesses of all sizes. Commonly referred to as the 1099 reporting mandate, this provision will affect 40 million entities in the U.S., including governments, nonprofits, and businesses across the nation.

The National Association of Government Contractors (NAGC) conducted a survey of members to learn more about the state of government procurement and the U.S. economy. The results show dramatic cuts in employment and little effect from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) on job creation. Over 30% of members plan further job cuts in 2010 after 61% cut jobs in 2009. Only 5% responded that they created jobs as a result of ARRA.

The National Association of Government Contractors supports new legislation expanding government contracting opportunities for small businesses. The Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee approved a bill Thursday designed to expand small-business opportunities for federal work.
